Evelyn A. Hoover, age 88, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 09, 2014 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay, Ohio. Evelyn was born on September 6, 1926, in Colby, Ohio, to John and Bernice (Gemberling) Riegel, both of whom are deceased. She married Rev. John Hoover on June 18, 1949 in the Mt. Carmel E.U.B. Church in rural Bellevue, Ohio, and he survives. She is also survived by 6 children, Larry (Jane) Hoover of Forest, Ohio, Stephen (Diana) Hoover of Upper Sandusky, Thomas (Gretchen) Hoover of Whitehouse, Ohio, Kathleen (William) Sumner of Heath, Ohio, Linda (Michael) Barth of Upper Sandusky, and Peggy (Dean) England of Upper Sandusky. Along with 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Evelyn has 2 sisters, Thelma Girton of Brookville, Ohio, and Arlene Johnson of Wilmore, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 4 brothers, Carl, Paul, Floyd, and Irvin Riegel. Evelyn graduated from York High School in 1944 and went on to graduate with a business degree from Tiffin University. She had worked as a secretary for Bellevue Manufacturing for a time, then served to assist her husband John, as a secretary along with other duties in the many churches they served together, as Pastor and wife. She was a member of the John Stewart United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky. For hobbies, she enjoyed camping, traveling, playing the accordion, and various board games. Throughout her life, Evelyn’s passion was her family, and in later years spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services for Evelyn A. Hoover will be held at 10:00am Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the John Stewart United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brian Arnold, Rev. Becky King, and Rev. Thomas Hoover officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and 1 hour before service time at the church on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to John Stewart U.M.C., The Parkinson’s Foundation, Gideons International, Bridge Hospice or a Charity of the Donor’s Choice. Memorials may be forwarded to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
