Robert Livingston Armstrong played outfield for the Marylands of Baltimore, 7 games in 1868, 24 games in 1869, and 5 games in 1870. He also played center field, always played with the Marylands. He was said to be a sure catch, a good thrower and an extraordinarily heavy batter. He was 6' 2". He also played in the first major league with the Fort Wayne Kekiongas in 1871.

Robert Armstrong worked in the county clerk's office (Fort Worth Gazette 11-19-1888) and later as a private title abstract searcher and notary (FW city directory, 1901). A baseball researcher recently found two articles in the Fort Worth Gazette, May 15 and 19, 1895, giving a humorous report of a baseball match between the "lawyers" and the "court house" in which "Bob Armstrong" plays second base for the "court house" nine. The account said that the hefty, muscular Armstrong can hit balls all the way to Dallas--when he connects.
