Elaine Starks, 87, of Sioux Falls, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Good Samaritan Village.

Elaine B. Hoyme was born August 26, 1921 to Ellis and Clara (Buskerud) Hoyme at Jasper, MN. She grew up in the Jasper area and received her education at Sherman, SD, graduating from Sherman High School in 1939. Following high school, Elaine attended Eastern Normal College in Madison, SD where she received a teaching certificate in 1941. Upon graduating from college, she taught at the Sunnycrest School near Jasper for two years.

On June 6, 1943, she was united in marriage with Norville Starks in Jasper, MN. The couple farmed and raised their children near Sherman, SD for 37 years. While living near Sherman, Elaine was active in her church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1977. After moving to Sioux Falls, Elaine was employed with the Ramada Inn, Daytons, and Sioux Valley Hospital. Her husband, Norville, preceded her in death in 1987.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she was active in the Sarah Circle. She had also been a member of the Women’s Auxiliary.

In addition to her husband, Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Clara Hoyme; and two brothers, Eugene and Irvin Hoyme.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church. Private interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be from 7:00 – 8:00 pm Friday at Miller West Funeral Chapel.
