Thomas M. Woosley enlisted at the age of 16 in the Confederate States Army with Company C, 50th Virginia Infantry at Camp Jackson, Wytheville, Virginia in April 1862 serving three years, two months. Captured at Spotsylvania Court House on May 12, 1864 and taken POW to Fort Delaware Prison to June 27, 1865 until he was released on oath. Postwar he began his new life without a dime in 1865. Married twice, built a home deep in the valleys and hills of Pea Patch, Buchanan County, Virginia, He became one of the most powerful and influential men of his day. He held many political offices...was a preacher on the side and a very religious man. Died of heart attack 10/22/1938 in Buchanan County, Va. and was the last of the county's Confederate veterans.
