Shannon Dale Walls, 74, of Harriman, went home to be with his Savior on Saturday, October 11, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold Hayes Walls and Anna Mae Walls of Coalfield, and by his oldest sister, Sandra Marcom.
He is survived by Glenda (Smith) Walls, his wife of 46 years, and by four children: Brian, Brett, Brandon, and Brooke (Scatchard). Shannon found great pleasure in being with his five grandchildren: Samuel (8) and Jonathan (7) Walls of New Port Richey, FL, and Olivia (7) Caden (5) and Sawyer (4) Scatchard of Paradise Valley, AZ. He is also survived by 4 of his siblings: Don Walls, Royce Walls, Brenda Jackson, and Melanie Walls.
Shannon graduated high school at the age of 16 and entered the United States Navy at the age of 17, where he served his country for 4 years. He later owned and operated E & E Trucking and SHEMCO, Inc. until his retirement in the early 90s.
Although he was a successful businessman for years, the greatest commitment in Shannon’s life was his faith. He felt the call to ministry shortly after committing his life to Christ in 1990. He soon became the pastor of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, in Lancing, TN, where he served faithfully for over 20 years.
Words cannot adequately summarize Shannon Walls. To everyone who knew him he was larger than life. He never met a stranger, and was famous for his ability to talk. As one of his friends said, “we got along so well because he always talked, and I always listened.” His wit was endless, his charm was infectious, and his kindness was a benefit to everyone who encountered him.
The family will receive friends at Middle Creek Baptist Church, Coalfield from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2014 and the funeral will follow at 8 p.m. with his son, Dr. Brian Walls officiating. Burial and graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Highway 61, Anderson County. Jackson Funeral Services is honored to serve the Walls Family. We invite you to share your thoughts and memories with the family at jacksonfuneralservices.com.
