Mary Bernadine (Froehlich) Alvey, 85, of Tell City, died October 10, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family. Bernadine was born in Tell City on November 17, 1928 to the late Edward and Ethel (Vaughn) Froehlich.

She married Ralph E Alvey on September 11, 1948. Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, her parents, her brothers William and Bernard, and a great grandchild Kieran.

Bernadine graduated from Tell City High School in 1947 and worked at GE for 33 years where she was a union steward for the Electrical Union. She was a woman of strong faith and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church where she served on the parish council, and was past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella.

Bernadine was a wonderful cook and best known for her decorated cakes especially her ding dong cake. Word games, especially Boggle and crossword puzzles were one of her favorite forms of entertainment. Going to listen to her husband play music was another highlight. She loved going to her children and grandchildren's sporting and academic events and was so proud of the many successes of her family. Family was important to her and she instilled that love of family to her children. Having fourteen children meant that something was always happening and Bernadine was always willing to go.
