Peru Tribune, Friday, Aug 8, 1880 : John York was born in North
Carolina, Sept 7, 1808, died at his home in Washington township, July 28, 1880. He was almost 72 years old at the time of his death. He had been twice married and was the father of 13 children, only 6 of whom are living, and one of these is a babe in it's mother's arms. Mr. York moved to this county 55 years ago and entered from the government the tract of land in which he cleared a farm and which afforded him a home until death; though last spring he sold the farm and bought a smaller one not far away. He bore the nature of an upright, honorable citizen, who attended to his own business and fidelity.
The funeral ceremonies were conducted by the Masonic fraternity, a large number of whom participated, from Peru, Bunker Hill, Miami and the neighborhood in which the deceased had lived. The citizen's band led the procession. The burial took place in the cemetery at Crider Chapel after services in the chapel by Rev. W. L. Huffman.
children: Lucy Ann, John Wright, Jesse P.,Philia, Maria Louisa, Louisa Mary, Miles F., Aaron B., Sophia, Laura S, Susan Victoria, Anna Pearl Bennett (a foster daughter),
