Doris Mary Thornley Sill, 92, church worker, musician and widow of the Elder Sterling W. Sill, who was an LDS Church general authority, died Sept. 26, 1995, at her Salt Lake home.She was born Jan. 25, 1903, in Kaysville, a daughter of John Watt and Nora Nelson Bonnemort Thornley. She attended Davis High School and the University of Utah, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. After teaching elementary school for five years in Kaysville, she married Sterling W. Sill Sept. 4, 1929, in the Salt Lake Temple. He died May 25, 1994, at the age of 91. She served in a number of positions of leadership, including Relief Society president of the Garden Park Ward, Bonneville Stake. An accomplished musician, she played the violin in what was known as the Thornley Trio. Her two sisters played violin and cello, and their mother, the piano.She traveled with her husband on many church assignments and while he was a top executive in New York Life Insurance Co. Also, she was an LDS Hospital volunteer for 10 years.Survivors include a daughter, Mary Carolyn (Don) Knepper, Mesa, Ariz.; daughters-in-law, Diane D. Sill, Sandy; Sandra C. Sill, Salt Lake City; a sister, Alice T. Evans, Salt Lake City, widow of the late Elder Richard L. Evans; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, John Michael, and David Sterling Sill.Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Garden Park Ward chapel, 1150 Yale Ave (1080 South). Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 South, and from noon to 12:45 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Kaysville City Cemetery.
