Virginia Marie "Gini" Schrag, 75, West Lafayette, Ind., died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. Virginia was born Sept. 8, 1931 in Lafayette to the late Edna O. Alexander Fields and Jacob Jordan Fields. She was a 1950 graduate of Jefferson High School and attended Purdue University and Patricia Stevens Finishing School in Indianapolis.

She married Dr. Calvin O. Schrag on Aug. 8, 1964 in Lafayette. He is the George Ade Distinguished Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Purdue University.

Virginia worked at the Journal and Courier in the advertising department until 1957; was a staff member of Purdue University Department of Theatre and Convocations and Lectures Program from 1957 to 1964; and was later a self-employed antique dealer from 1970 to 1988, and owned shops in Lafeyette and Battleground, Ind. She was a member of the Purdue Alumni Association, John Purdue Club, Purdue University President's Council, Purdue Women's Club, chairperson of Purdue Women's Antique Group and St. John's Episcopal Church in Lafayette. Her hobbies were collecting antiques and local and national historical memorabilia. She was an avid Jefferson High School baseball fan, Purdue football enthusiast and supporter of her grandchildren's athletic and dance programs. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Virginia was honored on April 13, 2007, at the dedication of the Virginia "Gini" Fields Schrag Theatre Office in the Purdue University Pao Pavillion of Visual Performing Arts.

Surviving is her husband Calvin; daughter Heather Stampfl and husband Eric, Dix Hills, Long Island, N.Y.; sister Mary Elizabeth Konig; and brothers: Milton B. Fields and wife Margaret and Paul "Spider" Fields and wife Ame; her grandchildren: Eric, Luke and Jessica, Dix Hills; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Larson; and brothers: William, Norman E. "Bob," Gordon B. and Richard D. Fields.
