Robert Elmer Anderson was the son of John R. Anderson 1870 – 1950 and Louise Elefson 1874 – 1939. John's siblings were: Ardella Grace Anderson 1893 – 1974; Luella May Anderson 1895 – 1967; Pearl Violet Anderson 1898 – 1978; Leonard John Anderson 1902 – 1925; Archie Marshall Anderson 1907 – 1982 and Leslie Wayne Anderson. 1915.

In the 1900 census he was about 8 years old and was living with his mother and father, who was a farmer in rural Miller, Lasalle Co., Illinois. John was attending school, and living with them were his grandpa and grandma, Rasmus and Julia Anderson, and uncle Andrew Anderson.

The 1910 census found that John's family had relocated to a farm in rural Colfax, DeKalb Co., Missouri. where they were raising stock and growing grain.

Missouri, Marriage Records, 1805-2002 confirms that Robert Elmer Anderson, wed Gladys E Mahaffie on 12 Nov 1913 in Osborn, Dekalb, Missouri. Their only baby was stillborn, Robert Leland Anderson in 1915.

On June 5, 1917 John and Gladys were living in Princeton Mercer Co., Mo. when he registered for the WWI draft. He was employed as a Drug Clerk for A A Proctor. He was medium build with blue eyes and blond hair.

The 1920 census disclosed that John and Gladys were living in a house that they rented at 2023 Edmond, St Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri. John was working at a Drug Co. as a Clerk.

They were paying $35.00 a month for a rented home in 1930 was at 2410 Francis in St Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri. They declared that they had a radio. John was now a Commercial Traveler for the Drug Co.

The 1940 census revealed that both John and Gladys had completed the 4 years of High School. They had rented a house for $35.00 a month at 2420 Felix Street, St Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri. John was employed as a traveling salesman for a wholesale drug Co. with an income 0f $2596.00 a year. Living in their household was Gladys widowed sister, Margaret Mahaffie Londergan She was employed as a saleslady at a retail department store. Margaret's daughter was in the first year of high School.

Missouri State Death Certificate File # 34105 confirms that Robert Elmer Anderson passed away on 31 Oct 1943 at Saint Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. A plot was selected for him at the Osborn Evergreen Cemetery. and a grieving widow, Gladys E Mahaffie Anderson gathered her friends around her to bid her beloved Robert farewell, and to "Rest in Peace" (bio by Audrey DeCamp Hoffman)
