Sarah Ann went by her middle name, Ann.

Sarah "Ann" was born near Terre Haute, Indiana. She lived there until she was
four years old when she moved with her parents to Mercer County, Illinois, where
she met and married a young veterinarian, Robert Carney. Three years after the
marriage, they moved to Ringgold County, Iowa and remained for 22 years before
moving to Whittier, California. She was one of eleven children and the
youngest.
"Ann" and Robert, a few years after their marriage, moved to Iowa and lived on
a farm near Tingley, Iowa for 22 years. They had two daughters and two sons and
the girls were much older than the boys. It is believed they were all born in
Iowa.
By the early 1890's several of Ann's brothers with their families had moved to
California so Ann and Robert decided that they too would like to live there. In
1893 they moved to Whittier, California and spent the rest of their lives.
After her husband's death Ann lived with her youngest son Earl, in her home in
Whittier. Her son Carl and his family lived next door and her granddaughter
Nina was a great joy to her. Ann died in Whittier at age 82. Her son Earl
remained single until after her death and tenderly cared for his mother until
she died.
