He was baptized Berge Johnson Fjellandsbøle 22 Oct 1843 and confirmed 24 Oct 1858 in the Holmedal Parish. His parents were John Nielsen Fjellandsbøle (1809-1902) and Britha Bergesdatter Myklebust (1808-1888). Berge had five siblings: Kari (b. 11 Apr 1842), John (b. 6 Jul 1845), Ole (b. 28 Sep 1847), Anna (b. 9 Feb 1850) and Britha Anne (b. 7 Aug 1852). The parish register dated Berge's departure from the parish to North America 10 Apr 1865. The parish register of Our Savior's (aka Kvindherred) Lutheran Church at Calamus recorded the marriage of Berge to Mari Jensdatter Myre on 9 Dec 1868. Mari was the daughter of Jens Olson Vedvik (1817-1897) and Marta Larsdatter Myre (1824-1915). Mari had emigrated from Norway with her family in 1861. Four children were born to Berge and Mari in Olive Township: Jens Johan (b. 26 Jul 1873), Bertha Martha* (b. 19 Sep 1877), Nils Olai** (b. 30 Dec 1878) and Berge Martin (b. 22 Oct 1882). Berge's widow married Halvor Thorsen Vågen (1835-1905) on 15 Dec 1886 in Olive Township.
