Blacksburg, Va, February 16. - Robert Patterson, Sr, of Philadelphia, died here early Sunday morning at the home of Mr Alexander Black, where, with Mrs Patterson, he has been spending the last two years. The body was taken on a special car to Philadelphia this afternoon and the funeral will be held there Wednesday. Mr Patterson was three times married and is survived by his widow and three sons, Mr Frank Patterson of Pasadena, California, and Mr R M Patterson, superintendent of maintenance of way for the Pennsylvania railroad.
Mr Patterson was born in 1819, celebrating his ninetieth birthday last week. As a young man he was employed in the United States mint and left that position to organize the Philadelphia Fidelity and Trust Company, holding many offices in that company and amassing considerable wealth. He continued in active business until the age of 75, although his physical health was unimpaired until a few weeks before his death. Those who knew him during his residence in Blacksburg and noted his brisk step and erect figure as he moved about the streets and took walks in the country, hardly realized that Mr Patterson had lived almost a century.
