Milton George Soric, of Springfield, Mo., died Monday morning, Sept. 22, of cardiac arrest. He was the beloved husband of Peggy Donohue Soric, formerly a writer for the Springfield Leader and Press, and the dear father of Susan Soric, of Chicago, Ill., and Jennifer Soric of Kansas City, Mo. A native of St. Louis, Mo., Milton served as a U.S. Marine during the Korean

War. He moved with his family to Springfield in 1964 while employed with the Frisco Railway. He retired from Burlington Northern in 1985, after forty years of service as a customer accountant with the railroad. Milton was a steadfast and loving husband and father, and a man of great kindness, compassion and principle. He was also a strong believer in the rights of the individual. His gentle sense of humor touched everyone he met.

Milton was a great lover of sports and was involved in many throughout his life. In his spare time he enjoyed tennis and played in many tournaments in Springfield in the 1970s and 80s.

He is preceded in death by his infant son Joseph, his father, George Soric and his mother, Katherine Domljanovic Soric, of St. Louis. The deceased is also survived by his sister Mildred Haywood of St. Charles, Mo.; his sister Margaret Miriani of Florissant, Mo.; his aunt Evelyn Benson of California; his uncle Vinko Eterovic-Soric of Pucisca, Brac in Croatia; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and Croatia. Cremation is under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home of Springfield. A memorial service with military honors will be held in St. Louis at a later date.
