Obituary for Alice H. Kendra
Alice H. Kendra, 91 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 2, 2014 in Perrysburg, Ohio at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Born November 10, 1922 in Monroe, Alice was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Oklajas) Cvetkovich. Alice attended school in Monroe and was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, where she helped in the kitchen with various church events.
On January 11, 1947, Alice married her beloved husband Joseph M. Kendra in Detroit, Michigan. Sadly, he preceded her in death on March 8, 1999 after 52 years of marriage.
Alice began working at a young age as a nurse’s aid at various facilities in Monroe, she then went to work at Monroe Auto Equipment where she worked for 18 years before her retirement. After retirement, Alice, being an animal lover, decided to go back to work and obtained a job the Monroe County Humane Society. She was also a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed crafts.
Alice is survived by her loving son Michael J. Kendra of Monroe, and two sisters: Sadie Milovich of Grand Rapids, MI and Grace S. Kush of Monroe. In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by a son: Edward Kendra.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 AM, at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, until funeral services celebrating her life at 1:00 PM. Fr. Rade Obsenica, pastor of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Historic Woodland Cemetery in Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Monroe County Humane Society.
