Betty Lou Ratley Sammons, 78, of Ore City, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 27, 2012.
Betty was born May 12, 1934 in Marshall, Texas, one of five surviving daughter born to William Davis and Estelle Ratley. After graduating as valedictorian from Elysian Fields High School, she met and married W. H. "Bill" Sammons on April 5, 1953. The two of them lived and worked around East Texas for over 40 years in various industries and businesses. While Bill pastored numerous churches, Betty worked tirelessly in Vacation Bible Schools, children's and women's ministries and never met a stranger without asking them if they knew the Lord Jesus as their personal Savior. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill and two of her sisters. Those left to cherish her memory are four children, Dave and Teresa Sammons of Burleson, Donna and Jamie McConnell of Lake Jackson, Danny and Wanda Sammons of Ore City and Debbie and Kevin Hill of Krugerville. She is also survived by two sisters, Marie Hopson of Oklahoma City and Daisy Langford of Longview, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a host of friends.
The family will greet friends at Rader Funeral Home, Longview, on Friday, June 29, from 6 to 8 PM.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Diana with Dr. Gary May officiating. Interment will follow at Cross Roads Cemetery, Marshall, TX at 12:30 PM. Rader Funeral Home, Longview, in charge of services.
