Irvin T. Smith, Sr, 91, of Orwell Hill Road, (Orwell Township) Rome, PA went to his heavenly home on Sunday, May 1, 2011 where he was reunited with his loving wife of sixty-seven years Arlene. A life long and well respected dairy farmer, Irvin was born on August 31, 1919 at home in Lebanon County, Pa one of eighteen children to Irvin B. and Emma I. (Firestine) Smith. He was a veteran of the US Army and on January 9, 1943 he married Arlene A. Kramer while stationed in South Carolina. Together they shared many wonderful years of marriage until her passing on November 14, 2010. Dedicated to his family and his life as a farmer, Irvin also enjoyed spending time in the fields planting and being surrounded by the many gifts from God. Irvin is survived by his children: Margaret A. (Russell) Edwards, Irvin Tom, Jr. (Donna) Smith, Mable (Gordon) Wilson, Christine Casselbury; grandchildren: Susan, Jackie, Connie, Daniel, Grace, Greg, Robin, Renee, Erica and Loretta; great grandchildren: Jessica, Samantha, Michael, Jonathan, Krista, Betsy, Cera, Gavin, Sadie, Dalton, Roxanne, Carl, Rachel and Isaac. His brothers Russell Smith and Clarence Smith; sisters Pauline Lentz, Helen Carpenter, Ella M. Richards and Mary Young; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Irvin was predeceased by his wife Arlene; a grandson Russell Clyde Edwards; sisters: Margaret Smith, Kathryn Zeller, Grace Smith, brothers: Harry, Nester, Samuel, William, John, Clifford, Ray and Wilbur Smith. Funeral services and a celebration of Irvin's life will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011 at 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St, Nichols with Pastor David Pitcher, officiating. Interment will follow in the Darling Cemetery. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service.
