Agnes Lois (Bean) Ungerecht, 87, of Northome, died March 7, 1997, at North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bemidji.

She was born July 31, 1909 in Glen Ullin, N.D. to Theodore and Alma Bean. She attended school through 12th grade in Glen Ullin and she was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church. She attended Jamestown College and taught rural school in New Salem area south of Glen Ullin.

In 1936 she married Walter Ungerecht at Pasto, Wash. in the home of his brother and by a minister who had pastored the Congregational Church in Glen Ullin. They spent their first years in Wallows Valley, Ore.

They moved to Bridgie Township, southwest of Northome. She taught in the Northome School in 1944-1945. In 1960 the family moved to Glen Ullin where they lived five years. In 1957 they returned to Minnesota and she began teaching. She retired in 1966 but was asked to return the same fall. She taught special education until 1974 when she retired a second time.

When she was 12 years old she began to play the piano for Sunday school. Two months later she was asked to play for the church and continued to play for various churches for the next 75 years. She was still playing for Grace Presbyterian Church this January. During those years she also taught music to many students.

A world traveler, she spent the next years traveling with friends and family and sharing her experiences. Her family, faith, friends, music, books and travel were all very important to her.

She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Neff of Hendricks and Joan Thralow of St. Joseph; three sons, John Ungerecht of Northome, Kenneth Ungerecht of Baltimore, Md. and Gerald Ungerecht of Wichita, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Aletha Thorpe of LaGrande, Ore.
