Funeral services were held Monday, October 22, at Laona for Alice S. Betker. Mrs. Betker died at Crandon Health Care Center, October 19, 1984, at the age of 93. Visitation was from 4 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, at St. Leonards Catholic Church, Laona and prayers were held at 7 p.m. Father John Cerkas officiated the funeral Mass at the church Monday, October 22 at 11 a.m. Pallbearers included Tom Kendall, Pat Votis, Ivan Calhoun, Kevin Kendall, Dean Scheels and Bob Ceplina.
The daughter of Louis and Margaret (Nice) Simonis was born April 15,, 1891 in the Town of Knowlton. She married Peter Betker in April, 1910 in Rosholt before moving to Blackwell. She spent the rest of her life in Laona. Her husband died in 1953. She was also preceded in death by a son Carl; three daughters, Agnes Mortson, Hazel and Mary; three sisters, and three brothers.
Survivors include six daughters, Margaret Lang, Mrs. Tom (Frances) Kendall, Mrs. Pat (Irene) Votis, all of Milwaukee, Ruth Adamski of Appleton, Vivian Tangness of Beaumont, California, and Mrs. Ivan (Ethel) Calhoun of Laona; two sons, Roy (Eleanor) of Caspain, Michigan, and John of Milwaukee; a sister Dora Dudzek of Fort Atkinson; two brothers, Clarence (Meta) of South Bend, Indiana, and Louis (Verna) of Mosinee; 29 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren.
