Samuel Johnston, aged 73 years, died at the Providence hospital yesterday. The deceased is a member of the G.A.R. and has relatives living in Arlington. Funeral arrangements are being made by John F. Jerread.

Samuel Johnston served in 46th PA Inf. Co. B and requested pension from that service in 1891 from PA.

After the war: The 1880 census found him employed as a laborer married to his wife, Amelia. The couple had a daughter, Effie, one year old at that time. He was in a state militia regiment and wasn not eligible for a government pension. He came to Arlington, Washinton on May 20, 1904 with his brother, William. His wife at thime was named Victoria. It is unknown what happened to his first wife and daughter.
