He was born on September 22, 1925 in Byrdstown, TN the son of Willis and Elva (Robbins) Huddleston and served in the U.S. Marines with Gulf Co, 3-28th 5th Marine Division, during WWII on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, and the occupation of Japan. He provided cover for the Marines raising the flag on Iwo Jima.
Mr. Huddleston was employed at Borg Warner for 45 years prior to his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Muncie City Council in the 1960’s, member and treasurer of UAW Local 287 and a long time precinct Committeeman. He traveled with the Veterans of the 5th Division and helped organize the annual luncheon for Indiana Marines. He was an honored guest at The Dedication of the WWII monument in Washington in 2004.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Vivian Huddleston; two daughters, Dr. Patricia Huse (Dr. John), Indianapolis and Linda Gray (Dr. Wayne), Muncie; four grandchildren, Allison Navarro (Mike), Noblesville, William Huse (Anna), Indianapolis, James Huse, Indianapolis, and Capt. Spencer Gray (Whitney), Fairbanks, AK; two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Grayson Navarro; his brother, Richard Huddleston (Joyce), Muncie; a sister, Lillys Russell (Noble), Melbourne, FL; a brother-in-law, James Craig, Paducah, KY; and several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Craig.
