Ellen Marie Ellis, 77, passed peacefully, September 25 after a brave battle with cancer.

She was born October 20, 1936, to T. Ralph and Marguerite Palmer.

On June 18, 1960, she married Don B. Ellis who preceded her in death on July 18, 1995.

Surviving are her daughters, Lisa (Chet) Hewitt and Kathy (Scott) Salley; a grandson, Matt Hewitt; a great grandson, Obidiah; a brother, Ed (Jane) Palmer; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Robert) Sink and Sharon (Les) Trekell; cousins, Phil (Vicki) Miller, David (Debbie) Bell, Shirley (Stan) Norris, Phyllis (Ernie) Wilcox and Charene (Gilbert) Springer; and many nieces and nephews.

Her heart was filled with music, her soul with the love of family, friends and faith. Her passion was THE Ohio State Buckeyes.

Marie graduated from Rushville Union High School in 1954 and Ohio State in 1958, majoring in music education. She first taught in the Newark City Schools. After moving to Chillicothe in 1963 and starting a family, Marie took the position of Music Teacher at the Pioneer Center, where she taught for more than 30 years.

An active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, she sang in the Church Choir and also directed the Bell Choir. Marie and Don were also founding member of the Renaissance Singers. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Cass Stull and Theresa Herrnstein for their devoted friendship, Trinity Choir and Bell Choir and the Renaissance Singers for their constant flow of cards, gifts and flowers, and the staff of Adena Cancer Center and Heartland for their kind, loving care.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2014 in Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Kurt King officiating.

Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.

Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Following the burial, family and friends are invited back to Trinity United Methodist Church for refreshments.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church 24 S. Mulberry Street Chillicothe, Ohio 45601.
