Sylvania was Nathaniel's third of four wives. They were married 31 Jul 1853 in Tishomingo County, Mississippi (later Alcorn County). He fathered four of his eleven children with her. Both she and her husband were Primitive Baptists. They lived in Polk County, Arkansas, Tishomingo County, Mississippi, and Comanche County, Texas.

She was a special lady. She took care of most all of Nathaniel's children and their children when he was absent. The 1860 Federal Census finds her alone with the children. Nathaniel was an adventurer and seems to have been gone often. He led wagon trains West, spent time looking for gold in California and fought in the Civil War.
