Rev War Pension file for Solomon Blackmer, Jr. (Claim No. S - 19546):
He states his birth date as 4 October 1758, at Western, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He states he resided at Western prior to and during all of his service in the War (from 1776-1779). He states the following service periods which were confirmed by 2 witnesses and approved by the pension board, and he was pensioned for this time: Drafted in 1776 to serve 6 months in Capt. Knowlton’s company and served at Dorchester near Boston, Mass. Volunteered 1777 to serve 6 months in Capt. Newell’s company and served at Rhode Island then to Providence on sea coast duty. Volunteered autumn 1778 for 6 weeks or 2 months (could not verify time exactly) in Capt. Newell’s company and served at Rutland, Mass. guarding prisoners. Volunteered summer 1779 for 3 months in Capt. Timothy Paige’s company and served at Kings Ferry and West Point. (He was at W. P. when Benedict Arnold committed treason by trying to turn West Point over to the British). He further states that he resided in Western, Massachusetts the entire time when he served in the War, from 1776-1779. Then he moved to Wardsboro, Vermont (called Dover in 1832, but appears on maps today as Wardsboro again) where he remained for 5 years. Then moved to Palmer, Vermont (I cannot find this on any of the maps that I have) and remained there for 3 years. Then moved back to Western, Mass. and by 1810 was back in Dana, Worcester County, Mass. Pension granted on 10 November 1832 with retroactive payment back to 4 March 1831 at $56.66 per year.
