Thelma Mae (Brown) Smith, 91, St. Joseph, died Friday, January 21, 1994, at a hospital.

Mrs. Smith had been a registered nurse for St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Mo., and then head nurse at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville from 1951 until retiring in 1964.

She was born in Maryville and had lived in St. Joseph for several years. She graduated from the Horace Mann High School in Maryville and Northwest, and the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1932.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in St. Joseph and St. Anne's Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Felix R. Brown.

Surviving: her husband, Vincent T. of the home; five daughters, Annora Newman and Wanda Dryer; both of St. Joseph, Betty Brimm of Las Vegas, Alice Swyhart of Springfield, MO, and Rita Wade of Kansas City; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Monday, Horigan Chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO.
Visitation: after 9 a.m. Sunday, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday.
