THOMAS NEVIL (1808-1870) BIOGRAPHY:

Grandfather: John Oliver Nevils, a Revolutionary War Veteran. Reference: Find-A-Grave Memorial # 137532494
Born: 1744 in Beaufort County, North Carolina.
Died: July 30, 1804 in Bulloch County, Georgia.
NOTE: JOHN OLIVER NEVILS (1744-1804) and his wife, FRANCES ANN MIXON, are not buried at the exact location of his Revolutionary War Memorial Monument. Since JOHN OLIVER & FRANCES ANN were buried at the original site of NEVILS CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH the church building has been moved TWICE. They were buried without the benefit of a permanent marker. The original site is one mile northwest of the memorial on Old River Road, a high place to the left of Nevils Creek Crossing. After the two moves of the church, The Daughters of the Revolutionary War (D.A.R,) placed the Memorial, at the last Church location, in the 1920's. This monument commemorates JOHN OLIVER NEVILS for his service to Country and community. He served with the 2nd South Carolina Regiment during the Revolutionary War. JOHN OLIVER NEVIL and FRANCES ANN MIXON had six children, one was, a son, JACOB NEVIL (1769-1863), father of the deceased, THOMAS NEVIL (1808-1870).

THOMAS NEVIL, born March 12, 1808, died October 21, 1870, married 1st Rachel Parker, born October 30, 1818, in Screven County, GA and died July 12, 1859 in Bengal (Register), GA), on November 8, 1835. Rachael is interred in the THOMAS NEVIL CEMETERY, Register, Bulloch County, Georgia next to her husband, THOMAS NEVIL.

A younger sister of THOMAS, PHOEBE ANN NEVIL, b. October 25, 1825, d. June 15, 1903, is interred, next to her husband, WILLIAM ASBERRY SUMMERLIN (1826-1892) - A CSA VETERAN, without the benefit of a memorial marker on her grave, in this same cemetery where THOMAS is buried. His sister PHOEBE ANN NEVIL was buried in the THOMAS NEVIL CEMETERY by her son ELISHA B. SUMERLIN of 515 Tattnall Street, Savannah, Georgia.

1. Jacob Vanburen Nevil Jr., b. 27 JUL 1838, d. 23 MAY 1861. He married Mosell Parrish. Interred in Thomas Nevil Cemetery between the graves of his Mother Rachel Parker Nevil and his brother, Joseph L. B. Nevil.
2. Joseph L. B. Nevil, a CSA casualty, killed 28 AUG 1862 in 2nd battle of Manasses, VA. b. 09 OCT 1840, d. 12 AUG 1862. His remains are in Virginia, interred there on or near the battlefield where he died. A "Tall" Memorial is mounted in the Thomas Nevil Cemetery, honoring his life.
3. Anna Jane Nevil, b. 30 NOV 1842, d. 1922. Still searching for a clue about her life and final resting place.
4. Margaret Elizabeth Nevil, b. 18 NOV 1844, d. 29 AUG 1902. Married William Burroughs. Still searching for a clue about her life and final resting place.

Jones, Born September 14, 1838 in Bulloch County, GA, died December 12, 1927, in Register, Bulloch County, Georgia is interred in the Lower Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Bulloch County, Georgia under her maiden name, MARY E. JONES. The four (4) children from this marriage are listed below, in birth order:

1. Peter 'Pete' Love Nevil, b. 30 JUL 1860, d. 08 OCT 1940. Married Lavenia Cornelia 'Netty' Williams on 23 MAR 1880. She was born 11 JUL 1861, and died 05 SEP 1935. Five (5) children: 1. James Lemuel (1882-1957), 2. Thomas Van Buren (1885-1965), 3. Paul Lee (1888-1951), 4. Sally O. (1891-1978), and 5. Teta (1897-1899).

2. Simon Lamar Nevil/Neville, b. 28 NOV 1861, d. 16 JUL 1934. He married Lenora Ardella 'Nonie" Williams, about 1891. She was born in 1875, died in 1953. Seven (7) children: 1. William Gesmon (1892-1965); 2. Charles Jackson (1894-1986); 3. Magie Eunice (1900-1999); 4. Eula Jane (1904-1996); 5. Lila Ethel (1907-2004); 6. Simon Melvin (1910-2001); 7. Eugene Ottis (1915-1984).

3. Charles 'Charlie' John Nevil/Neville, b. 18 MAY 1863, d. 22 JUN 1872. He died at age nine (9), and his parents buried him in their private cemetery, the Thomas Nevil Cemetery, Register, Bulloch County, Georgia.

4. Thomas 'Tom' Butler Nevil, b. 27 FEB 1865, d. 15 AUG 1945. Married Ardelia 'Delia' Williams, daughter of James M. Williams & Sarah A on 07 APR 1887. She was born 05 NOV 1869, and died 03 DEC 1952. One (1) child from this marriage, a daughter, Minnie Irene Nevil (1869-1952). Minnie Irene married James Winkler Anderson (1884-1957) and together they had four sons: (1) Thomas Cecil (1908-1991); (2) James Jackson (1910-1995); (3) Melvin Winford (1916-1996); and (4) James Winkler, Jr. (1919-2015).

The cemetery is located in the area serviced by the Register Post Office in Bulloch County, Georgia on the North side of US Highway 301 about 6/10th mile south of Lotts Creek Bridge.
