C. EVERETT MAVIS IS DEAD IN AUBURN
Retired Linotype Operator, 68 Years of Age, Passes Away Following a Second Stroke of Paralysis

C. EVERETT MAVIS, 68, who resided at 610 North Jackson Street in Auburn, died at 11pm Tuesday at his home after suffering a second stroke of paralysis. He had apparently been in his usual state of health Tuesday and had gone with his wife and daughter to the court house to purchase 1964 license plates. He suffered the second stroke after he had retired Tuesday evening.

Mr. Mavis, a retired linotype operator, had been disabled for the past 15 years as the result of the previous stroke suffered while attending a high school football game in Auburn; his left side was affected by the stroke.

The body was removed to the Dilgard & Cline Funeral Home in Auburn where friends may call after 10am Thursday. It will be taken to the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church at 10am Friday and will remain there for funeral services which will be conducted at 1:30pm Friday. The Rev. Miles Freeman, pastor of the church, will officiate at the services and burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery at St. Joe.

Mr. Mavis was born in Putnam County Ohio on Feb 12, 1895, the son of the late Charles and Barbara Friend Mavis. He worked as a linotype operator in Hicksville and then for many years at the Auburn Printing Company. Later he was employed in Fort Wayne. Mr. Mavis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Auburn and served as an elder of the church at one time. He and Flossie Sechler were united in marriage in St. Joe in 1917.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Everett Mavis Jr, of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mrs. Forrest Bevington of Rt 1 St. Joe; seven grandchildren, and three brothers, Quentin Mavis of 307 West Twelfth Street, Auburn; Bruce Mavis of south of Auburn and Karl Mavis of 330 West Ninth Street, Auburn.

A brother and a brother-in-law of Mr. Mavis preceded him in death recently and he had attended funeral services for both. Loren Mavis, 63, of Van Wert Ohio died Nov 24 and the brother-in-law, Harold Bouton, 64, died in California on Nov 17. Services were held in Defiance, Ohio for Mr. Bouton.
