Slumps to Floor From Heart Attack

Mrs ODESSA L BAILEY of Near St Joe Age 65, Sister of Four Auburn Residents, Dies Suddenly at Her Home

Funeral services for MRS ODESSA L BAILEY, 65, of one and one-half miles southwest of St Joe, formerly of Auburn will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at the Church of Christ in St Joe. The Rev Donald Foust of the Aboite Church of Christ will officiate assisted by the resident minister, Rev Douglas Holley.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in St Joe. The body is at the Baidinger & Walter Funeral Home in Spencerville and will be taken Tuesday noon to the church to lie in state until time for the services.

Mrs Bailey, who was the sister of Everett Mavis of North Jackson Street Auburn, Quentin Mavis of West Twelfth Street Auburn, Bruce Mavis of near Auburn and Karl Mavis of West Ninth Street Auburn, died suddenly at her home at 10:30 am Saturday. She had just returned from Spencerville with her grandson and upon entering the home, slumped to the floor. A physician was called but Mrs Bailey apparently died instantly of a heart attack. She had been afflicted with a heart ailment for several years. Her husband, Robert S Bailey was in the home at the time of her death, convalescing from a recent illness.

Odessa Lillian was born July 3, 1896 in Putnam County Ohio the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Charles W Mavis. She resided in and near Hicksville before her marriage to Mr Bailey and then the family established their farm home in Indiana and have lived in DeKalb County most of the time, except for a brief stay in Defiance Ohio.

In addition to the above survivors, Mrs Bailey is survived by a daughter, Mrs Harvey Carr of St Joe; four grandchildren Mrs Larry Barber of Bloomington Indiana, Nicolas Joe, Melanie Jayne and Fern Renee Carr and another brother, Loren Mavis of Van Wert Ohio.

Two children, Kathryn and Russell Bailey, died in infancy and two sisters, Mrs Verieta Arrants and Mrs LaRue Bouten also preceded her in death.

Mrs Bailey was a member of the St Joe Church of Christ and of the WBA in Hicksville.
