Salt Lake businessman and civic leader Soren Morgan Sorensen died Saturday, Sept. 9, 1989, in a traffic accident. He was 77.

Mr. Sorensen, a native of Ephraim, was co-owner of South East Furniture Co. in Sugar House where he worked for more than 50 years as vice president and erchandise manager. His expertise in merchandising, marketing and consumer preference was recognized nationally by the furniture industry. He served as president of the Utah Furniture Association, the Utah Retail Merchants Association and the Utah Council of Retailers, and was named Utah Furniture Retailer of the Year.

Nationally, he served as senior vice president of the National Home Furnishing Association and served on the board of directors for several years. He was also a consultant to national furniture manufacturers.

Mr. Sorensen also served on the Board of Governors of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and was a board member of the Salt Lake Area United Fund. He also was a charter member of the Sugar House Kiwanis Club and served on the board of the Utah Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The Sorensen family will receive visitors Wednesday, 7-9 p.m., at 520 Man-O-War Road in Bloomington, Washington County.

The funeral will be Friday, Sept. 15, at noon in the Larkin Mortuary Chapel, 260 E. South Temple. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Burial will be in the Kaysville City Cemetery.
