Andrew William Klyn was born on June 24, 1914, in Pella to Arie and Marie Hagens Klyn. He graduated from Pella Community High school in 1932 and attended Central College, majoring in chemistry. Following his graduation from Central in 1936 he attended law school at the University of Iowa. He received his law degree in 1939. He then joined Dick Van Zante in the practice of law as Van Zante and Klyn from 1939 to 1942. In 1942 he enlisted in the Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Pennsylvania in the Pacific as personal ensign to the Admiral of the Pacific Fleet. After his discharge he worked for a law firm in San Francisco until 1945 and returned to Pella to rejoin his law practice here. He retired in 1982.

On May 31, 1941, he married Charlotte Piffer Schrier of Indianola. They had two children.

Klyn was active in civic activities. He was a member of Rotary International and an active participant in Tulip Time for Rotary through the construction and driving of floats for parades and as a spieler on tour wagons. He was a participating founder and charter member of both the Pella Community Hospital and the Pella Golf and Country Club. He served as a member of the board of directors of the Pella Community Hospital, raising funds for its construction and for later fund drives. He was also a member of the City of Pella Airport Committee for several decades and participated in the creation of and the raising of funds for both the old and new Pella Airports. He was a strong supporter of the Pella Historical Society, the Pella Opera House and Central College.

Andrew, 90, of Pella, died Feb. 20, 2005.

Klyn was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, in childbirth.

He is survived by his wife; two children: Charlene and Xavier de Juarez of Mazatlan, Mexico, and Vincent S. and Vicki Klyn of Pella; a sister, Janet and Richard Beving of Camarillo, Calif.
