Nadine graduated from Cotulla High School and in 1935 moved to Austin, TX where she attended Nixon-Clay Business College. After graduation, she worked for the State Board of Cosmetology for 9 years. On October 14, 1945 she married Albert Lesikar. They moved to Houston, TX where she worked for the Chase Manhattan Bank for 30 years.
Al and Nadine retired in 1979. They moved to Kerrville, TX and enjoyed many years of happy retirement. Al passed away on June 13, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents: Eugenia "Genie" and Thomas Pickens; brothers: Ted, Stanley, Warren, Lynn and Marvin Pickens.
She is survived by sisters-in-law: Beulah Pickens and Joyce Pickens and a number of dear and loving nieces and nephews and their families. One niece, Bonnie Pickens, was especially dear to her as her caretaker these last years.
Nadine was happiest when she was in her kitchen making jelly and jams or trying out a new recipe. Many friends and family were the recipients of her creations. But most of all, she was our "Prayer Warrior"-the one we turned to when we needed a prayer offered up on our behalf. We knew we were protected if she was praying for us. Also, she prayed daily for church members as part of their prayer chain ministry. A call or visit to her could lift you up and give you a smile on your face.
Nadine was a member of Eastern Star. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Keystone Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, September, 22nd at Grimes Funeral Chapels, Kerrville, TX. Interment will be at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Garden of Memories, Kerrville, TX and a celebration of her life will be at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Kerrville, TX. Services will be officiated by Bob Allen, Sr. Pastor at FUMC and a memorial tribute will be done by Bonnie Pickens.
The family suggests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church.
