She was 84 years old.
Shirley was born on January 22, 1937, in Surry County, NC to Clyde and Ola Bledsoe.
She was retired from the Surry County School System after serving many years as a Teacher’s Assistant at Copeland Elementary. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a member of New Home Church of Christ and loved all her church family. Shirley was an avid college basketball fan. All her family and friends knew not to call her when there was a game on TV.
She will be dearly missed by all left behind to cherish her memory.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 49 years, J.E. Cox, and her brother-in-law, Jackie Fuchs.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Donna Cox, of West End, NC; daughter, Melissa Cox of Summerville, SC; granddaughters, Allie Bowman (Cory) of Summerfield, NC and Marion Cox of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Wanda Jordan (Ralph) and Wilma Fuchs, all of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, Earl Bledsoe (Joan), of Dobson, NC. She is also survived by three nieces, Michelle Bowers (Neal), Beth Flinchum (Mike), and Christie Bledsoe.
Services for Shirley will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at New Home Church of Christ at 2:00 pm, with burial immediately to follow in the church cemetery. She will lie-in-state at the church from 12:30 pm until the time of her service. Brother Tim Smith will officiate the service. The family asks in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the New Home Church of Christ Cemetery Fund, c/o James Draughn, 4064 Simpson Mill Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Due to COVID restrictions, the family requests all attendees wear a mask and practice social distancing.
