Fredonia Pioneer Died Tuesday Oct. 1

Stephen Osborne Services October 4

Stephen Osborne, long time resident of Plymouth county, passed away October 1, at his home in Fredonia township after a long illness.

Mr. Osborne was born January 24, 1869, at Brenchley, County of Kent, England, the son of David and Maria Osborne. He came with his parents to the United States and the Seney community at the age of 18 months. The railroad was under construction between Sioux City and LeMars at that time, so David Osborne and his family came up to LeMars on a work train. He settled his family on a homestead east of Seney. Stephen Osborne has lived his entire life in Plymouth and Sioux counties.

He never married and made his home with his brother, George. He is survived by two brothers, George of LeMars and Tom of Mission Hill, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters and one brother. "Uncle Stib" is also mourned by a large number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 4, at 1:30, at the home and at 2 at the Seney Methodist church. Rev. J. E. Lombard will officiate and burial will be made in the LeMars city cemetery. Mauer's Funeral Home, LeMars, is in charge of the arrangements.

The pallbearers were Elam Chapman, Ralph Hinde, John Alderson, Wm. Hawkins, Jake Berkenpas and John H. Deegan.
