Bruce I. Barber passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014 at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell, Mont. He was 76.

Bruce was born April 24, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pa. to Madeline McManus and Elmer Barber.

He attended Hainesport Elementary School, Rancocas Valley Regional High School and Gettysburg College, where he majored in economics and minored in psychology. He also took management, law, and insurance courses at the Sterling Institute of Management Studies, Temple University School of Law, and the College of Insurance.

Bruce spent six years in the U.S. Army Reserves. While residing in Hainesport, Bruce was elected to the Town Counsel, where he also served as mayor and commissioner of police.

In May of 1960, he married Carol Mathis, and they lived in New Jersey until his retirement when they then moved to their residence in Mesquite, Nev. Carol passed away in 2007.

He started his business career working for Public Service Electric & Gas in Burlington. He then went to work for Royal Insurance as the territorial claim-loss manager. Bruce continued in the insurance industry to become executive vice president/corporate secretary as well as a corporation director for Partners Reinsurance Company in the World Trade Center in New York City until his retirement in 1999.

Bruce met Kay Ellen in 2008 in Mesquite, and they were married on Aug. 11, 2009 in Bigfork, Mont. where they spent their summers.

At the age of 12, Bruce began caddying at the Burlington County Country Club and continued to play golf for the next 60 years. His other hobbies were dancing (when he was young, he danced on American Bandstand), bowling, billiards, playing cards, and watching football. He was a very active member of the Mesquite United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kay Ellen; his stepsons, Charles and James Jordan; and his cousins, Carol Remey and Gary Behler.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at Mesquite United Methodist Church in Mesquite, Nev. Interment will be in the family plot in Elm Grove Cemetery, North Kingstown, R.I.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bruce's name to Mesquite United Methodist Church, 420 North Pioneer Blvd., Mesquite, NV 89027.

Condolences may be sent to 385 Eagle Bend Dr., Bigfork, MT 59911.
