Richard A. Ganther, 85, Eau Claire, died Saturday March 11, 2006, at his residence.

He was born in Germantown on July 21, 1920, the son of Frederick and Lily (White) Ganther. He moved to Eau Claire in May 1929. Richard graduated from high school and went to vocational school for two years. He also attended the Army Air Corps Military Academy and graduated a first lieutenant. Richard served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a bomber pilot. Richard served in the African and European theaters of operation. He married Wanda Misselt on November 11, 1945, at Lake Street United Methodist Church in Eau Claire. Wanda preceded him in death on February 8, 1976. Richard worked at Uniroyal for more than 35 years. He enjoyed roller-skating and roller dancing. Richard truly loved to get in his car for road trips.

Survivors include his children, Sharon Bungartz and David Ganther, both of Eau Claire, Kim Ganther of Jim Falls and Susan Ganther of Waupaca; his grandchildren, Marie (Blaine) Johnson and Shelly Raether, all of Eau Claire, Adam Ganther of Lake Minnetonka, Minn., Matthew Ganther of Madison, Amanda (Chris) Gilles of Chippewa Falls, Justin Ganther of Auburndale and Rick Ganther of Eau Claire; his great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jordan Elizabeth, Hayden and Rhyan Marie. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; a sister Ethlyn; a brother-in-law, Melvin Repaal; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine.

A memorial visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Stokes & Mundt Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 535 S. Hillcrest Pkwy. (Hwy. 12 East) in Altoona. Spring burial with full military honors will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire.
