Glenn Allan Hamilton, 84, of Pittsburg, passed away Monday, September 15, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. at home. He was born April 22, 1930, at Mulberry, KS, to Walter Sr. and Goldie (Spoonhour) Hamilton. He married Joan Shead August 31, 1957, at the Mulberry United Presbyterian Church. She survives of the home.
He moved from Mulberry to Pittsburg in 1944 with his family and graduated from College High School in 1948. He served as an Air Policeman in the U.S. Air Force from December 1950 to December 1954, stationed at Carswell AF Base, Texas. He then attended Pittsburg State University, majoring in printing. He was active in the printing industry for 36 years. From July 1978 to September 1991 he was owner of Superior Printing, Pittsburg. At his retirement, he was the last owner/operator of a linotype machine in Pittsburg.
He is a former deacon and current member of Trinity Baptist Church and Via Christi Auxiliary. He was a former member of Pittsburg noon Rotary, International Typographical Union, Tri-State Printing Craftsman Club, Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army Advisory Board, several bowling leagues and two square dance clubs, and a graduate of the Leadership Pittsburg Class of 1986. Since retirement he has volunteered with Via Christi Auxiliary, Weir Baptist Camp, Habitat for Humanity, and Red Cross Bloodmobile.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: son David and wife Tracy of Independence, MO; daughter Lisa Harris and husband Keith of Hepler, KS; grandchildren, Andrew (Lucy), Kevin, and Megan Hamilton and Molli Harris; step-grandchildren Christel Yost, DJ Steel, and Donnie Rasmussen and four great-grandchildren, Chai, Thomas, Nora, and Peyton. He is also survived by siblings Raymond Hamilton, Sumter, SC; Pete Hamilton, Malakoff, TX; Ulela Baker and Leona Teague, Hutchinson, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Walter, Jr., Clarence Donald, and sisters, Alice Hamilton, Evelyn Stevens, and Meredith Becker.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 19, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 301 East Washington, Pittsburg. Burial will follow in the Rosebank Cemetery in Mulberry where the Whiteman Air Force Funeral Honors Detail team will provide military honors. Visitation is from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, at Bath Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg.
