Nina J. Herbert, 97, died early Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, surrounded by her family at her Byram home.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014 at 10 a.m. and funeral services at 11 a.m. at National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada. Graveside service to follow at Grenada Memorial Gardens in Grenada. Raymond Road Baptist Church will hold a memorial service on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. in Jackson.
Mrs. Herbert was born in Carroll County on Dec. 11, 1916, to Archie and Lennis Harper Jeffreys. She was the eldest of five girls, all now deceased.
Mrs. Herbert was a long-time resident of Grenada and a member and Sunday School teacher at Enon Baptist Church. After moving to Jackson, she joined Raymond Road Baptist Church. Mrs. Herbert was the produce manager at Piggly Wiggly in Grenada for 56 years until her retirement in 1991 at the age of 72.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Lennis Harper Jeffreys of Carroll County; her husband, Russell Herbert of Grenada; her four sisters, Tessie Carroll of Greenwood, Gladys Smith of Teoc, Mary Minyard of McCarley, and Nell Joiner of Holcomb; her son-in-law, David Alan Sinn of Jackson; and her nephew, Larry Smith of Teoc.
She is survived by one daughter, Russellan “Rusty” Sinn of Byram; one granddaughter, Tamsyn Gramling Boeke of Starkville; six great-grandchildren, Robert Alan “Woods” Gramling, Ashton, Alyssa, and Audrey Boeke of Starkville, and Debra Anne and Brandy Ellis of Petal; 10 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made either to Raymond Road Baptist Church, 4622 Raymond Road, Jackson, MS 39212; or the Baptist Children’s Village, P.O. Box 27, Clinton, MS 39060.
