Thomas B. Patton and Ella Bridgeland were married April 28, 1881 at Winnebago, Illinois. They came to Alberta in 1903, where the family was among the early pioneers and homesteaders in the Red Deer Lake district. Thomas was one of Alberta's first landscape artists, naturalist and conservationist. In recognition of the contribution made by the Patton family to the development of the community after they moved to Calgary, in the area which is now known as Pump Hill, a road adjacent to their former residence was named "Patton Road".

Mrs. Ella Christina Patton, 88, active Calgary Red Cross worker, died Monday at her home in the Glenmore district.
Mrs. Patton was born in Winnibago, Ill., and lived there until 1884 when she moved to Alta., Iowa. Ten years later she went to Edgar, Nebraska, where she lived for eight years. Mrs. Patton came to Red Deer Lake District in Alberta in 1902, and in 1912 moved to the Glenmore district where she had lived since.
Her husband, Thomas, died in 1935, and a daughter, Hazel, died in 1911.
Mrs. Patton is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wilde, Wyatt Bay, B.C.; Mrs. E. P. Holmes, Calgary; three sons, Clarence, St. Catharines, Ont.; Mark, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Ralph, Glenmore.
