"JOHN R GOODWILL DIED EARLY MONDAY MORNING - Well Known Sparta Township Young Man Ill But Few Days - [Special to the Herald] - SPARTANSBURG, Aug 8 - Stricken suddenly last Friday while at work, with paralysis of the throat, John R Goodwill, a young farmer of Sparta township, survived less than three days, passing away at his home this morning at 2 o'clock. Mr Goodwill was one of the best known agriculturists of Eastern Crawford county and was a man of sterling character and of unusual moral excellence. He was a member of the Baptist church of Spartansburg and of the Modern Woodmen lodge. John Russell Goodwill was born in Warren county on Aug 4, 1894, having been 27 years of age last Thursday. His boyhood days were spent with his parents, Mr and Mrs Edgar Goodwill, in the state of Washington, where his mother still resides. The senior Mr Goodwill has been visiting at the home of his son this summer. On Nov 22, 1916, the deceased was united in marriage with Miss Mildred E Rieck at Mayville, NY, who survives, together with two sons, Norman, aged 4, and Quentin, aged 2. He also leaves four sisters and two brothers as follows: Mrs William Spurrell of Seattle, Wash, Mrs Harry Hicks of Conneaut Lake, Mrs Alfred C Vanderhoof of Titusville, Miss Viola Goodwill who is at present on a vacation tour of the Great Lakes, Bradshaw Goodwill of Cedar Rapids, Wash, and Roy Goodwill of North East. Funeral services in memory of the deceased will be conducted from the Baptist church at Spartansburg at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Rev M M Clark, pastor, officiating."
