Motor racing driver. John Love was born in Bulawayo, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and began racing motorcycles alongside his friend Jim Redman. Redman went to Europe and became a multiple Word Champion. Love began motor racing and in 1959 also began racing in Europe. In 1961 he began racing Formula Junior cars for Ken Tyrrell alongside team mate South African Tony Maggs, but in a bad crash the following year at Albi, he broke his left arm so badly that he had no further movement in it. He returned home and continued motor racing, his injured arm would not allow a full scale F1 season, and contested as a privateer every South African Grand Prix for the next nine years. In one year, he even led the GP until fuel starvation dropped him to 2nd place behind Pedro Rodriguez. He became a national hero in his own country and at the age of 80, he died of cancer.
