She worked with the Gaston County Police Department by working in the Auxiliary in 1978 and later hired in 1978 to the patrol division of Gaston County Police Department. In 1989 she received her Advanced Law Enforcement Certification awarded by the State. She worked in the Accreditation Unit, the County Police Accident Review Board and worked as a breathalyzer operator. Prior to her work with Gaston County, she worked as Auxiarilly for Dallas Police Department.
Brenda was known for her strong will and love of animals especially her beloved dog Gunner.
Survivors include her son David Scott Ramsey; sister Jacqueline (Rick) Hoffmann of Casselberry, FL; nephew Jeff (Denise) Hoffmann; niece Jenna (Kevin) McQuade; great niece Kinley McQuade
