Ray Shaw Mason, Sr., 82, of Liberty, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at the Liberty Healthcare Center in Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 12, 2014, at the Heights Baptist Church in Liberty with burial following at Hardin Chapel Cemetery in Hardin. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Ray was born September 19, 1931 in Dayton, to parents; George I. Mason, Sr. and Nina I. Shaw Mason, and has been a lifelong resident of Liberty. He was a graduate of Liberty High School, former owner of a Western Auto store, an Exxon service station, member of the First United Methodist Church, and a former volunteer firefighter for Liberty. He also enjoyed ranching and tractor work. Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his father: George I. Mason, Sr., mother: Nina I. Shaw Mason, mother of his children: Vera Mason, son: Ray S. Mason, Jr., and brothers: George I. Mason, Jr., Leonard Mason, and Fred Mason. He is survived by his wife of 43 years: Vennie Jordan Mason of Liberty, daughters: Lynn Ayers and husband Ray of Liberty, Ann Phillips and husband Donnie of Hull, Janet McKinney and husband Bobby of Dayton, Dee Ann Gruver and husband Tim of Liberty, and Shelly Lopez of Liberty, brother: William Mason and wife Linda of Conroe, grandchildren: Jarrod Land and wife Courtney, Jake Phillips and wife Rachel, Josh Phillips and wife Amanda, Ally Rae McKinney, Harper Phillips, Austin Gruver, Kirbie Gruver, Micah Gruver, Barry Lopez, J. R. Mason, and Danielle Baird, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
