Florence Irene Gammie was 1 of the 10 children of James Watt Gammie and Mabel (Winfield) Gammie.

Her first job was at age 16. She lived with, and worked for, the John Henry Kopas family who owned a farm near Alma in Nichol Township, Wellington County.

Florence married Robert Chamberlain (known as 'Bob') July 1, 1942 at the Manse for the Bethany Church, located on Wellington County Road 7 between Elora and Ponsonby. That building later became the home of Florence's Uncle, George Alexander Bruce Gammie (known as 'Bruce'), and later the home of Bruce's son Grant Beverley Gammie.

Shortly after the wedding, Robert left for military service (1942-1946).

For 50 years they lived near Elora, Ontario at the corner of Middlebrook Road and the 8th Line West in Pilkington Township (now called 'Centre Wellington Township). The house was across the road from the farm where Florence grew up. The owners of that farm prior to her parents were her maternal grandparents Theodore and Emily Jane (Beal) Winfield.

Florence and Bob had 4 children. Before 1965, all of the children had done some of their early schooling at the one room Middlebrook School where Florence and her siblings had also attended in their youth.

Florence had various jobs in Fergus including homemaker for the Russell family (they owned Russell's department store), clerk at Forester's Drug Store, factory worker at Savage Shoe, teller and meat wrapper at the IGA grocery store. She also was a baker at 2 restaurants in Kitchener/Waterloo. The job she held the longest and retired from (Jan 1984) was pattern cutter/tester at Simmons Furniture Factory in Elora.

Florence was a dedicated member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Elora. She was in the choir for at least 65 years, and a member of the Service Club, the Bible Study group, etc. She became an elder in the church in 1988 and served in that role for several years.

Florence expressed her deep compassion for others through phone calls, visits, singing, praying, care packages of homemade food, handmade cards, offers of transportation, etc.
