Thomas E. Gilbertson, age 67, of Ashland, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014, at his home. He was born February 3, 1947 in Ontonagon, MI, the son of Fred and Ruth (Olson) Gilbertson.
Tom graduated from Ondossagon High School in 1965. He was a proud Vietnam War Veteran serving in the US Army from 1968 to 1972 as a military policeman and also served with the 101st Airborn Division. Tom enjoyed listening to all kinds of "old time" music including his favorite Johnny Cash. He was an avid baseball fan who truly enjoyed his Milwaukee Brewers and also a fan of the Green Bay Packers.
He is survived by three sons, Dan (Ellen) Gilbertson of Ashland; Daryl (Heather) Gilbertson of Ashland, and Dean Gilbertson of Washburn; 5 grandchildren, William, Gavin, Tristan, Megan and Lucas; a sister, Eleanor (George) Bitner of Ontonagon, MI; a brother, Fred (Pat) Gilbertson of Marietta, GA; 3 sisters-in-law, Wanda, Linda, and Pauline Gilbertson; an aunt, Vy Fields of North Carolina; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Deanna Ruth; and four brothers, Edwin, Gary, Robert and Lawrence.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Benoit Cemetery in the Town of Mason, WI.
