Samuel Thomas “S.T.” McTeer, 91, died Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Spanish Oaks Retreat. He was born in Savannah, son of the late Frank Hamilton McTeer and Nell Izlar McTeer, one of 10 children. He was a 1941 graduate of Benedictine Military School and attended the University of North Carolina and Armstrong Junior College. He excelled in high school sports achieving multiple honors and recognition in basketball, football and baseball, and went on to play semi-pro baseball.

He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and honorably discharged in 1946. He later served in the U.S. Air National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1952.

He began his professional career with Universal CIT, moving to Savannah Bank and Trust Co. in 1969 from which he retired as a Group VP after many years of dedicated service. After retirement, he was a founding member of The Savannah Bank and continued to work part-time in Business Development.

During his lifetime he contributed significantly to the Savannah community through his roles and leadership in various civic organizations. He was on the Board of Directors for the Jenkins Boys Club where he was a member as a youth. He was a Master Mason (Scottish Rite) and a member of the Alee Temple Shrine in Savannah where he served as Treasurer. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and the Clown Unit. He was a former member of the Lion’s Club and was on the Board of Directors for the Southside Fire Department. He was very dedicated to his high school alma mater and started the B.C. Survivors Club which is comprised of B.C. alumni. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church since shortly after its founding.

He was an avid golfer, being a past member of LaVida Country Club and Savannah Golf Club where he served several years as Treasurer.

He is survived by two sons, one daughter three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Bonaventure Cemetery with Dr. Allan W. Bosson officiating followed by interment in the cemetery under the direction of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
