Helen Lucille (Schultz) Lowery, 87, of Oak Ridge, went to be with her Lord and Savior in her home on Saturday September 6, 2014. She was born January 06, 1927 in Talbott, Tennessee to the late Preston Monroe Schultz and Dora K. Knight Schultz.

She was the last surviving of 9 brothers and sisters. She graduated from Morristown East High School in 1945, after which she came to oak Ridge, working as a Calutron Girl at Y-12. She also worked at X-10 and K-25. On May 27, 1950 she married James Keith Lowery, from Morristown, Tennessee. 

A very active member of the Republican party, she served as Chairman of the Republican Party of Anderson County, Secretary of Anderson County Election Commission, VP of the Election Commissioners East Tennessee Stateboard, She as honored on several occasions for her service, most recently a "Lifetime Achievement" plaque presented by Zach Wamp and 'Republican Woman of the Year" in 2012. 

She was most proud of her membership as President of the Republican Women of Anderson County. As a charter member in 1959, this chapter grew to a high of 144 members during her presidency and won the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women's Growth Award. In 2011, she took on the challenge of bringing back the charter not only in oak Ridge, but all of Anderson County. During her life in oak Ridge she also participated in Carbide Wives, Home Demonstration Club, Lioness Club, PTA, Girl Scouts, Band Parents, 4-H Club, Anderson County Fair, Parkinson Support Group and Beryllium Support Group. She was a charter member of the Cold War Patriots. She was a long time member of Glenwood Baptist Church. She loved Gardening, arts and crafts and cooking for her family. She is predeceased by her husband of 61yrs, Keith and daughter Rita Lowery Anderson. She is survived by daughter Sandra Lowery Boldu and son –in-law Jos`e Luis, granddaughters Elena Boldu- Lowery and Aislin Anderson, son-in-law Bill Anderson and step-great grandson Walden McLeod, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the entire team of Professional Case Management nurses, whose love and care for Helen throughout her illness is deeply appreciated. You have become a part of our family. Also a special thanks to Neva Morann, Brightstar and Amedisys Hospice. 

Visitation with the family will be Friday September 12,2014 from 6-7:30 pm at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Funeral Service following at 7:30 Dr. Mark Walton officiating. Interment will be Saturday September 13, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Glenwood Baptist Church or Oak Ridge Parkinson Group.
