Benedict Conte
St Johnsville – Benedict Conte, 56, passed away June 29, 2013 doing what he did best-helping others!

He resided in Lassellsville, St Johnsville.

He was born December 15, 1956 in Utica, NY the son of Giacomo and Mary Conte.

He was a 1974 graduate of JFK High School, Utica, he received an Associate Degree from SUNY Cobleskill and his Bachelors and Masters in Agricultural Education from the University of Arizona.

Ben worked for St Johnsville Central School for 13 years as the Agricultural teacher. There he ran a very successful FFA program which included about 100 students. He was awarded the Montgomery County Agricultural Teacher of the Year Award. He then worked at HFM BOCES, Johnstown as the Environmental/Conservation teacher from 1995 to present.

Ben will be remembered by his loving family and friends as a giving, caring man.

He was the Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School Board of Education President, a current member of the O-ESJ School Board, a volunteer for Ephratah hunters safety courses, and still involved in the NY State FFA program.

He has influenced many of his past and present students and will be greatly missed by them. Ben was a lifetime teacher and learner. He will play a great part in our lives forever.

Ben is survived by his wife Deborah, daughter Angeline Conte, son Giacomo Conte, son Eric (Rene) Barnes, son Chad (Jessica) Barnes, grandsons Dylan, Tyler, and Braeden Barnes, sister Maria (Brion) McIntosh, niece Audry, mother-in-law Dorothea Sullivan, father-in-law Sherman Rockwell, and numerous other wonderful family members.

Ben was predeceased by his parents Giacomo and Mary Conte, his aunt and uncle Alex and Kay Juhasz, father-in-law Lorraine Sullivan, and several other special family members.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, July 8, at the Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church Street, Cherry Valley with Rev. Lyman Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 10 – 12 noon preceding the service.
