Martin Luther Emfield was the oldest of six children born to Solomon Emfield (1835-1918) and Elizabeth Jane (Rader) Emfield (1841-1923). His siblings were; Charles Washington Emfield (1869-1963), an unnamed infant brother who was born and died 11 Apr 1870), Benjamin Franklin Emfield (1872-1961), Laura Estella Emfield (1876-1967) and John Wesley Emfield (1878-1958).

He married Ida Araminda Roley on 20 Aug 1888 in Basil, Fairfield County, Ohio. This union produced the following off-spring: Edna Fern (1890-1974), Gladys Mae (1893-1994), Emmett Everet (1898-1980), Forest Gale (1899-1998), Garnett Leota (1901-1923)and Carl Wesley (1907-1978).

Martin was a Railroader his entire career and his unfortunate and untimely demise was due to a head-on train wreck occurring on his final day before retirement, while he was riding the rails with some of his former coworkers. (see attached story).
