To this union seven children were born, two dying in infancy. The five surviving are: Joe Merkle, Maud, Oklahoma; Fred Merkle, Flagstaff, Arizona; Jack Merkle, Norman, Oklahoma; Mrs. R. E. Bowling, Pauls Valley, Okla., and Mrs. Bess O'Halloran, Cordell, Oklahoma. Also by sixteen grandchildren; her step-mother, Mrs. Mattie Stevens, Wichita, Kansas; a sister, Mrs. F. T. Little, Wichita, Kansas; three brothers, G. V. Stevens, Wichita, Kansas; H. A. Stevens, Wichita, Kansas; Frank Stevens, Wichita, Kansas.

In 1877 she removed with her husband to the State of Washington where they lived until 1890 when the family located on a homstead near Norman, Oklahoma, where they have since resided, the husband and father, John Merkle, died April 20, 1915.
