He had lived in Arizona for 56 years, and in Globe for 47 years. He was the retired proprietor of the Phillips Motel in Globe. He was a lifetime member of BPO Elks Lodge 489 of Globe and a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church.

He was survived by his wife, Ethel M. of Globe; three sons, Stewart I. Phillips of Torrence, Calif., Tom V. Phillips of Globe and James R. Bednorz of Mesa; four brothers, Herbert Bednorz of Globe, William Bednorz of Grass Valley, Calif., John Bednorz of Emmit, Id. and August Bednorz of Lordsburg, NM; four sisters, Mrs. Rosalee Phillips of Globe, Mrs. Annie Wall of Sweet, Id., Mrs. Dorothy Meyers of Lordsburg and Mrs. Lillie Wilder of Deming, NM; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
